In 2004 it was decided that a federally focused chapter of the AGA was
needed in the Colubus, Ohio area to compliment the already robust state
and local focused Central Ohio Chapter. Then AGA National President Bobby
Derrick, CGFM, approached leaders of DFAS Columbus to encourage the formation
of a new chapter. Shortly thereafter a group of seven individuals, with
the support of key management personnel, began the work of forming a chapter.
In September 2004 the soon-to-be chapter held its chapter organization
meeting. This meeting was well attended and featured the AGA National
President, the President of the Central Ohio Chapter, and several DFAS
Columbus leaders. At that meeting several individuals signed the chapter
charter, indicating their desire to form a new chapter.
In October 2004 the then unnamed chapter held its first meeting. We were
previledged to have Mr. Zack Gaddy, DFAS Director as our innaugural speaker.
In December 2004 the National Board of Directors voted to recognize the
Greater Columbus Chapter as the newest chapter of the AGA.
In January 2005 the first chapter elections were held. The new officers
were elected to fill a term of 16 months.
In July 2005 the Greater Columbus Chapter received several awards while
setting AGA National records. Chapter Awards included the Silver Chapter
Recognition Award and the Honorable Mention Award for the Chapter Newsletter
(The Federal Focus).
Since then the chapter has continued to grow and to expand the opportunities
made available to the chapter membership and to those in the Government
Accountability profession in the Greater Columbus Area.
